Victor Osimhen inspired Nigeria to a comfortable vital victory over Rwanda, in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria won 2-0 on matchday five, to get back on track for the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.
Osimhen scored twice as the three-time AFCON winner gained all three points to move to fourth position in Group C.
The Galatasaray man opened the scoring in the 11th minute, as he latched onto Ademola Lookman’s free kick.
Osimhen made it two in the last minute of the first half, following a defensive error. The Nigerian stole the ball from Rwanda defender, Thierry Manzi, surged forward before looping over the goalkeeper, Fiacre Ntwari.
In the second half, both teams played safe, as they kept looking to break each other walls, with Rwanda been the better side.
The hosts almost made it 2-1, only to be denied by the offside flag, as Nigeria kept clean sheet to increase their goal difference to one.
Following the win, Nigeria moves a position higher, with six points, one behind Rwanda and four behind leaders, South Africa.
Meanwhile, Osimhen brace took him ahead of Segun Odegbami, making him the second Nigerian highest goalscorer of all time.
He is on 25 goals, behind Rashidi Yekini, who has 37 goals to his name for the Super Eagles.
Nigeria will welcome Zimbabwe next Tuesday, as they hope to qualify for the tournament next year in USA, Canada and Mexico.
Nigeria new head coach, Eric Chelle will hope to claim his first home victory with the Super Eagles, after getting a win in his first game in charge.
