Everton’s defender, Reece Welch has agreed to go on loan to KMSK Deinze in Belgium. He is scheduled to travel there on Thursday, September 5, for his medical examination.
Welch, 20, played with the Everton first squad during the preseason after spending the first part of the previous campaign on loan at Forest Green. This summer, both domestic and international teams showed interest in the center back.
However, Everton and Belgian second-tier team KMSK Deinze have now reached an agreement for a season-long loan. Welch is viewed highly by Everton. They think that a summer loan move will be the next step in the England Under-20 international’s development.
During off-season, the Toffees acquired Jake O’Brien from Lyon, which caused the young player to fall farther down the Goodison Park hierarchy. Before rejoining Everton in January of last year, Welch made 23 appearances for Forest Green throughout the first half of the season.
Additionally, he has made two appearances for the senior team of the Merseysiders, both in cup competitions. He has made four starts for the Under-21 team this season and has continued to play well, but he will now play adult football in Belgium’s second division.
Welch’s Everton contract is expected to expire in June 2026. After losing all three of their opening games in the top tier this season, Sean Dyche’s team is currently ranked lowest in the Premier League. Following the international break, the Merseysiders will play Aston Villa on September 14.
