Barcelona’s manager Xavi Hernández is insisting on the presence of support from the club’s president Joan Laporta, despite suffering successive defeats in the space of days.

The Spaniard guided the Blaugrana to a 4-2 league defeat to Girona at the weekend before overseeing a more embarrassing loss to Royal Antwerp in the UCL mid-week.

Despite these setbacks, Xavi confidently told reporters in his Friday press conference that a good season is still within reach—with the possibility of winning a whopping four trophies still possible for his side.

His words: “I’m fine, I’m positive and very excited. We can have a great season. Everything is at stake. I believe in the project and the players. The union with (sporting director) Deco, (club president Joan) Laporta and the dressing room is really strong.”

The 43-year-old also hit at the media for generating “unnecessary tension” amidst a team that’s working hard to guarantee a good season for themselves.

The media are not united but it is time for us to be more united than ever. Alarm bells always ring when things are not going well but we can still win four titles,” Xavi said.

In the dressing room, everyone is training really well and they get really annoyed when things do not go well. The players believe in what they are doing.

“I think they (media questioning him) are generating a tension that is not necessary.

“I am getting messages as if it were a funeral, as if my mother or father had died. I was not congratulated when we finished top of the (Champions League) group.

“A month ago I was told I could be the (Sir Alex) Ferguson of Barcelona, now I might be sacked…stability is what the club needs.

We are a winning project and we cannot go into a deep depression every time there is a slump.”

This outburst is coming a few days after Xavi claimed his team is in construction; hammering on the inevitableness of backward and forward movements.

Barcelona will be away at Estadio de Mestalla on Saturday, where they’ll be looking forward to their winning ways against a Valencia team that has lost three out of their last four league games.
