Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi has given an honest comment in response to transfer rumors that have linked him to Tottenham. As previously reported, Tottenham was a major fan of the Ukraine international prior to his move to the Cherries.
Zabarnyi garnered fantastic reviews during his absence from one Premier League game under Andoni Iraola. This explains why Tottenham and Arsenal were interested in recruiting him while he was at Dynamo Kyiv.
Since Ange Postecoglou joined the team, the Lilywhites have made tremendous progress at center back. Radu Dragusin replaced Micky van de Ven. Despite this, following the exits of Eric Dier and Emerson Royal, Spurs have been linked to adding another new defender.
“There have always been rumours, but I haven’t talked to my agents about it. I’m focused on playing at Bournemouth. Then we’ll see, I don’t know anything yet” he told Dynamo Kiev.UA.
Over the course of the next several trading periods, Tottenham may show renewed interest in Zabarnyi. However, it is likely that his price will be significantly higher than the £24 million transfer fee Bournemouth paid 18 months ago.
That’s not to say that he wants the transfer either. Especially in light of his most recent remarks about his future. Although Zabarnyi has refused to say much, he might be persuaded to move after Dominic Solanke’s lucrative move to north London.
Spurs had the striker on their wishlist after Postecoglou promptly designated him as a top target. Thus, talks progressed to a more advanced level. Spurs quickly finalized a £65 million agreement to acquire him from Bournemouth
Zabarnyi might be eager to join Solanke, depending on how he does in the upcoming months after suffering an injury during his debut. With Bournemouth undefeated after three games, the center back has played every minute of the Premier League season thus far.
